Senate Introductions!

 Hi everyone!

I hope you are all getting excited for BMUN! My name is Melika and I am going to be head chairing the committee this year. I'm a senior here at UC Berkeley double majoring in Economics and Political Science with a minor in Public Policy and a Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Technology. This is my eighth year in MUN and my fourth year in BMUN, and I am so excited to share with you all some of the things I have learned about MUN over the past few years. Outside of BMUN I am involved in the Iranian Student Cultural Organization and the Undergraduate Economics Association. Over the next few weeks my vice chairs and I will be putting up blog posts on this page on a wide variety of subjects, including our topics, procedure, and general tips so that you can come to committee prepared! With that said, keep reading to learn more about our AWESOME vice chairs for BMUN 70!!!!

Hello delegates! My name is Ainsley Chu and I am a senior studying Political Science at UC Berkeley. I am ecstatic to be one of your Vice Chairs for BMUN 70, and hope to support you all in your research, delegation, and speaking endeavors for the Senate Committee. The topics we have chosen for you resonate deeply with my own passions as I fully support international women’s rights and domestic criminal justice reform. As a pre-law student, I firmly believe that we should be educating ourselves in important social issues to widen our own global perspective while recognizing the privilege we have in our ability to discuss these topics. I hope to have a well-informed and respectful discussion of the many perspectives our American senators might bring to the table. The blog posts we will publish should support and further your understanding of our two topics, and I am excited to see where this conversation takes us!

Hello everyone!! My name is Nadia Kazempoor and I am so excited to be one of your Senate vice chairs for BMUN 70 this year! A little bit about me… I am currently a 2nd year at Berkeley pursuing a major in Political Science, with a concentration in Comparative Politics, and two minors in Human Rights and Persian. I was born and raised in Orange County, CA, though my family is originally from Iran! I competed in Model UN all 4 years of high school, and even attended BMUN myself during my senior year! Here at BMUN, I currently serve as the USG of Publications, where I am in charge of designing and distributing all digital and printed materials, as well as all things BMUN merchandise! Outside of BMUN, I am also President of my sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and the Co-Director of Outreach for the Iranian Students Cultural Organization. In my freetime, I enjoy reading books (currently reading Robber Bride by Margaret Atwood), watching HBO shows like Succession, playing with kittens, and listening to music! (#swiftie).

Joining Model UN my freshman year of high school truly changed my life and the trajectory of my academic interests. With this, I know that our committee, the Senate, will be full of passion, knowledge, and lots of entertainment! I cannot wait to hear more about your Senator’s opinions and ideas regarding CEDAW and Mass Incarceration. Looking forward to meeting you all in March and good luck!!

Hi everyone! My name is Alex Edgar and I cannot wait to be one of your vice chairs for Senate this year.

A bit of an introduction to me before we meet in-person: I’m a first year Political Science major, with a

concentration in international relations, and Spanish minor here at UC Berkeley, but I am originally from

Simi Valley, CA. Outside of BMUN, I am a member of the Cal Mock Trial team, the Programs Director for

the Associated Students of the University of California Vote Coalition, and the Activities Director for

Blackwell Hall Association. In my free time I love exploring the Bay Area, eating delicious food from

small businesses, binging everything on HBO Max and Netflix, and hanging out with my friends.

As someone who loves the intricacies of our political system, I am so excited to see all of you bring your

educated arguments to the floor and show us what the future of American democracy looks like. The US

Senate won’t know what hit them after hearing the results of your passionate research into CEDAW and

Mass Incarceration. I can’t wait to meet you all in March!!

We hope you enjoyed learning a little bit more about us, and we are so excited to meet you all this March! Until then, please enjoy this picture of your Senate chairs :)
