Suggestions for solutions
Hi delegates! This blog post is going to be focused on suggestions for solutions.
First, the Ratification of CEDAW. For starters, it is important to note that the making amendments to the actual content of CEDAW is not within the scope of our committee. Instead, our legislation is going to mostly focus on establishing reservations, declarations, and understandings on CEDAW. By using RUD’s, Senators can prevent the United States from being held legally accountable for any violations of clauses within the treaty. In addition, RUD’s can be utilized in order to clarify the United States’ position on any particular clause.
For our second topic, Alleviating Mass Incarceration, there are various solutions that can be proposed and implemented. Given this, I encourage delegates to research specifically the areas of mass incarceration that their Senator typically addresses, and cater your solutions towards those points. For example, if your Senator speaks extensively regarding mandatory minimums and three strike laws, then your solution should be focused on those policies. On the other hand, if your Senator feels strongly about putting additional restrictions on prosecutors, then you should gear your solution towards prosecutorial discretion.
